SILVER JEWELLERY

Delicate & Eleganant

About Swamphen Jewellery

I started Swamphen Jewellery to make the jewellery that I couldn't find but wanted to wear.

I am an experienced silversmith who has set out to create a strikingly diverse range of jewellery. Each piece is lovingly fashioned using silver, brass, copper, gold or a combination of these metals often with precious stones.
With a style that both amuses and delights, my delicate earrings, funky rings and eye catching pendants make a stunning statement.

Hi There

When I'm not making beautiful designs I am probably busy with one (or all) of the following:
Cats. Memes. Cats. Fetch/Walkies with Meg the dog. Cats. Binge-watching a new TV show. Did I mention Cats?

Gallery

Handcrafted jewellery suitable for special occasions and everyday wear. Designed and made in New Zealand. Where possible we use recycled materials.

Fine Jewellery

My fine jewellery is designed and created in gold and silver with precious stones in the hope they will become a treasured heirloom piece.
Attention to detail and accuracy of scale is foremost to producing a piece of fine jewellery, but what makes it unique is the skill of the silversmith who creates it with a special person in mind.

Everyday wear

I love combining copper, silver, brass and gold to produce understated yet remarkable pieces that are more affordable.
They can be worn from morning til night to create an eye catching effect to dress up your business or street wear.

Sinister Sister

Does the left hand know what the right hand is wearing?
This range is Swamphen with an edge. It states what you dare not say. From far off it is a little ring, a quirky brooch or a pretty necklace. Up close it tells a different tale.
Putting on one of these statements takes courage of a subtle sort.

FAQ

Swamphen Jewellery is...

I’ve been making jewellery for as long as I can remember. My great grandmother and I used to make beads out of rolled up chocolate wrapper foil threaded onto cotton. Then I used play dough and wore crumbly beads around my neck. Mum got sick of the crumbs and purchased some Fimo, I became entranced with the colours, shapes and sizes.
After saving up my money I finally bought a book about jewellery when I was 8 and I still have it! I used to spend hours going through Mum’s jewellery box and trying to wear her earrings. I kept pestering to get my ears pierced and Mum finally dropped the age from 18 to 15. I got them pierced for my 15th birthday.

What inspired the name?

I drew my inspiration for my name from a calendar we used to get each year. It had striking pictures on that after the year had finished could be made into a mural depicting New Zealand birds and animals.
One of these was the Pukeko (Poo-keck-oh).
The English translation is Swamp-hen and so was born the name of my design brand. After I had pestered my mother for years to get my ears pierced, I decided to get my first tattoo, of course it was going to be a Pukeko. I think both the name and bird are beautiful.

Where are you located?

I am located in Christchurch, New Zealand and sell online. I ship both locally and internationally. Check my Etsy Store for more.
I do the occasional stall and various markets now and again. Follow my instagram to keep up to date with this.

Cleaning & Care

Jewellery should be the last thing you put on before going out and the first thing you take off when you get home. Enamel jewellery is a little hardier if it gets wet but should not be scrubbed with an abrasive to shine it.
The lacquer earrings should not be immersed in water at all. Remove all jewellery before bathing, showering or swimming. Avoid spraying hair spray, deodorant or perfume when wearing any jewellery because it could damage the gemstones.
